Ready-meal boxes or a meal kit? An honest comparison for Bratislava

The short answer: ready meals are the better choice if you do not want to cook at all or you need a fixed daily calorie target. Yummy box is the better choice if you want to cook yourself, eat together as a family and pay less per dinner portion, especially when three or more people are eating. For one or two people the gap narrows, and ready meals can cost the same or less.

Below we compare real prices, time, freshness and portion control. All prices were checked on each service's own website on 4 November 2026, and we use regular prices, not first-order discounts.

Price: what does one portion really cost?

The regular Yummy box price is 5.25 to 11.00 euros per portion, with delivery included. The cheapest portion comes from the large box (3 to 4 people) with five recipes: 20 portions for 105 euros. The most expensive is the small box (1 to 2 people) with three recipes: six portions for 66 euros. New customers also get a discount on the first box. Yummy currently delivers only in Bratislava.

With a krabičková diéta you usually pay for the whole day. Zdravá Voľba lists 18.70 to 24.20 euros a day depending on calories (up to 1,500 to up to 2,200 kcal), with 5 meals and free delivery in Bratislava. FitKitchen costs 13.92 euros a day for Super Fit (about 1,000 kcal, 3 courses) up to 31.92 euros for Power (about 2,500 kcal, 5 courses), with free delivery. Pohodlná diéta also sells a single dinner for 8 to 14.50 euros depending on energy level.

The fairest comparison is the price of one dinner. A family of four pays 5.25 to 6.75 euros per dinner portion from the large Yummy box, less than a single ready-made dinner. But someone eating alone or as a couple with the small three-recipe box pays 11 euros per portion, more than the cheapest ready-made dinner.

Time: reheating or half an hour at the stove?

Ready meals clearly win on time: you heat and eat. The median preparation time across our recipes is 35 minutes, and half of them take between 25 and 40 minutes. Yummy box still saves the time you would spend planning, writing a shopping list and going to the shop, because the ingredients arrive measured. For many families, cooking together is shared time rather than lost time.

7 questions to ask before you choose

Do you want to cook? If not, ready meals are simply the better choice.

Do you need a fixed daily calorie target? Calorie-planned meal plans handle it for you.

How many people are eating? The more people, the cheaper each meal kit portion gets.

Check that the service delivers to your address.

Freshness and storage

Ready meals are already cooked, so services typically deliver them a day or two ahead. Yummy box delivers fresh ingredients, most dated until at least the following Friday, and you cook the dinner yourself on the evening you eat it. Use fish and poultry first. If you like the idea of your own ready portions in the freezer, read our guide on meal prep.

Portion size and calories

This is where ready meals are strong. Calorie-planned meal services portion everything for you, so there is nothing to weigh or count. Yummy box ingredients are measured so nothing is left over, but you decide how much goes on each plate. Our recipe pages list nutrition values per 100 grams, so exact calorie counting takes a little work on your side.

Who is each option best for?

Ready meals suit you if you do not want to or cannot find time to cook, you mostly eat alone, you need lunches for work or you follow a strict calorie target. Yummy box suits you if you want to eat home cooking together, try new recipes and keep the family food budget under control. Good starting points are one-pot recipes, pasta recipes, vegetarian dishes and fish recipes.

Many households combine both: weeknight dinners come from the box, and on the busiest days they eat ready meals. If you want to see how food costs add up over a month, read our guide to a family food budget.
